Learning to stand up and ride waves
is only a part of my objective. Equally important is for my students to leave the camp with the tools necessary to recognize and deal with potential hazards and respect the ocean’s vast power, from swimming out of rip currents and rough conditions to avoiding collisions with other surfers.

This is accomplished by posing questions and staging mock situations. As the students' wave savvy and confidence increases, so does their ability to think clearly and react calmly.
