About The Camp |

The John Tully Surf Camp employs a proven method of teaching invented and currently used in Australia. Instructors (one to three instructor to student ratio) are strategically placed from the takeoff point (where the wave is initially caught) all the way to the beach. The benefits of this method are twofold; an instructor is always at arm’s length away and the student is passed along from instructor to instructor out to the takeoff spot. The students line up on the beach and wait their turn, the line constantly moves and waves are always being caught like clockwork. Not only is this efficient, but safer as it eliminates potential collisions common with beginners taking off side by side. As the week progresses each student’s proficiency is carefully considered and it is determined whether they are ready for the more difficult task of catching their own waves. No student is ever required or even expected to go farther than their own comfort level. By the same token, I reserve the right to determine if a student is not ready for that advancement.
